Any moment now, the otter will jump back into the water to hunt for fresh fish. It loves fresh fish more than anything. It’s such a good swimmer that it catches its prey effortlessly. The otter’s thick oily pelt protects it from the cold in the water – the water simply runs off. I’m pretty sure it also wants to try out your bathtub!

Tarantulas are among the largest spiders in the world.

The Japanese Macaque looks so friendly. It almost looks as if it is smiling, tilting its bushy head with the small reddish face: "Do you have a treat for me?" Who could resist! Like all monkeys, this macaque loves fresh fruit. If it's sweet, like bananas, it loves it all the more. The Japanese Macaque is curious and sociable and likes to make friends. Once it has got to know you, it's sure to let you cuddle its thick furry back.

The chameleon is perfectly prepared for life in trees with its clawed feet and strong curly tail. So it can cling to branches with its body without being blown down by the wind. Of course it can also camouflage itself by adapting the color of its scaly skin to the tree or rock it happens to be sitting on. But sometimes it changes color when it wants to attract attention. Can your chameleon grab your attention like that?

The peacock is undoubtedly the most elegant resident of the farm.

With its head held high, it struts majestically across the farmyard. It knows exactly how beautiful it is. It carries its long neck proudly and balances a lovely feather crown on its small head.

It spreads its long tail feathers into a stunning fan, showing off the vibrant blues, greens, and golds. Even the hens are amazed – their rooster can’t do that!

The peacock originally comes from India, but it also feels at home with Farmer Paul, as long as it has enough space to show off.

The Emperor Penguin from WILD LIFE is the largest and heaviest penguin species. It is also unique for living so far south in Antarctica. Emperor Penguins don’t build a nest, instead brooding directly on the ice. After laying an egg, the female goes back to sea to hunt for fish, leaving the male to look after the egg. He places it on his feet and incubates it under his abdominal crease.

Net als in het wild, heeft ook de dromedaris van schleich® WILD LIFE maar één bult. Hij wordt ook wel eens aangeduid als kameel met één bult.

After birth, lion babies have a sand-coloured fur coat with dark, circular spots. They are well camouflaged in the savannah. Within the first four to six weeks, they remain in a den. At the age of three months, they are strong enough to follow their mother wherever she goes.

Besides walruses and sea lions, the various types of seals include, of course, common seals. They don't spend much time on land, and usually swim in the icy waters of the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean. While hunting for fish and shellfish, common seals dive 200 m deep and can hold their breath for up to 30 minutes.

The most famous species of fox is the red fox, which has a characteristic red coat and white chest. Its large, bushy tail helps the small predator keep its balance when running. On cold days, it wraps its tail around its body like a blanket to keep itself warm.

The impressive elk lovingly cares for her little calf. She nurses it several times a day. The mum has to eat lots of fresh grass to stay strong. She stretches her long muzzle into the air and breathes to find a lush meadow. When she catches the scent of juicy grass, she takes long strides through the forest and the calf follows.

Skillfully, the Ibex climbs up and down among the high mountain rocks. Setting its dainty hooves with caution, with an eye on the trail, the Ibex can move effortlessly through the difficult terrain of the Alps. More confidently than any other mammal here. It can easily scramble to heights of 3,500 meters! But when it gets hungry, it usually descends again from those lofty heights, because the juicy alpine meadows with the tasty herbs are usually lower down.

The tiger's stripes are as varied and unique as fingerprints. Even the skin underneath is striped. At first glance, the striking pattern hardly seems to be beneficial. After all, the tiger does not want to be discovered by its prey immediately. When the tiger goes hunting in the twilight, it is however perfectly camouflaged with the stripes. They appear as tall grass moving in the wind or like fleeting shadows. Unlike many other "cats" and big cats the tiger swims well and likes it, too. Therefore, the water is not a safe place for many prey animals.

The great white shark is the largest predatory fish on the planet. The way its teeth work is somewhat reminiscent of a revolver and they consist of several rows. When one of its sharp, triangular teeth breaks out of the front row, it is quickly replaced by another from the row behind it. New replacement teeth are constantly growing.
