Schleich Wild Life - Wilde speelgoeddieren van over de hele wereld

The American elk stands still at the edge of the forest, gazing into the distance. It’s mating season – and he is showing off his best side.

He walks majestically through the tall grass, ready to impress a doe. His strong body and antlers make him a worthy leader of his herd. I’m sure he can win a heart there.

Ages 3+.

The starfish lies completely still on the sea floor. Its yellow colour makes it hard to spot in the sand.

The perfect camouflage against its predators, such as fish and sea turtles. A turtle swims by. It comes dangerously close. Maybe it has spotted the starfish after all.

What is that? Suddenly, the starfish changes colour and turns a threatening red. The turtle doesn’t dare to come closer and prefers to swim away. The starfish is a fast-changing artist and can change its colour. Well done!

Arrr-Arrr! You can hear the sea lion’s piercing call. Time to eat! It rests on a rock with its head held high.

A moment ago, it basked in the sun, warming its thick, brown fur. But now its appetite calls, and it heads straight back into the sea.

There it is in its element. Feared as a hunter!

Ages 3+.

The rockhopper penguin is well equipped to withstand the cold. It doesn’t mind the icy temperatures. Its dense plumage perfectly protects it from the chill. It shoots through the sea with powerful flipper strokes – hunting for fish. It proves to be a true professional swimmer!

Once it has its prey in sight, there’s no escaping. The rockhopper penguin is just as cute as it looks with its waddle on land: Here, it moves surprisingly skillfully as well. It balances over jagged rocks and steep cliffs. Impressive!

Ages 3+.

The African lion looks majestic.

He likes to show himself from afar, standing on a rock to scare away his enemies. Even now, he gazes alertly into the distance. Did he hear a sound?

He shows no mercy to attackers, as he must protect his pride. Anyone who comes too close can expect a fierce fight.

It is best to keep your distance and admire him from afar.

Ages 3+.

Away! The squirrel darts across the forest floor so fast you only catch a glimpse out of the corner of your eye.

It leaps purposefully up the trunk of the hazelnut tree and higher into the fork of the branches. That’s where the tasty nuts are hanging!

It quickly plucks one from the branch and scurries back down the tree. In its hiding place, it gathers nuts for the winter. The squirrel is a true master at building food stores. And it’s so cute!

Ages 3+.

What’s that rustling? Now a loud smacking sound. The cute raccoon has revealed itself.

It’s out hunting again and has probably found a treat. It looks so adorable that you simply can’t be mad at it. When it’s not smacking its lips, this nocturnal predator with its distinctive facial mask is usually quiet at night. Its gray fur provides perfect camouflage.

During the day, it hides in its tree den. The mischievous badger rests there until its next attack.

Ages 3+.

Baby elephants are still quite clumsy after their birth and must first learn how to handle their trunks. They are still not able to feed themselves with it, so suckle from their mothers for the first year. In the process they gain a good kilo in weight each day. It is very important that they grow big quickly, because a lion or crocodile can hardly cause any harm to healthy, adult animals. If a predator does come dangerously close, the adults form a circle around the young. They are well protected in the middle.

Uu uu aa aa is the call our Mandrill from WILD LIFE makes every Sunday while dancing with its monkey friends. At home in the tropical rainforests of Central Africa, it eats almost everything nature has to offer, eating leaves, mushrooms, insects or even frogs until it is full. It is good friends with the Baboon and is generally happy to share. But the Mandrill has one thing over its friends: It is the world’s most colorful mammal. It really is eye-catching and almost looks like it could paint pictures with its face instead of a brush. You’ll have to ask if that’s true.

White-tailed bucks are very shy animals. When they get scared, they wave their tails back and forth.

Grizzlies are tall, strong animals – they stand up to 2.4 metres high and weigh roundabout 450 kilograms. They have sort of a hump on their back and strong hind limbs. Grizzly bears are able to run up to 55 kilometres per hour. They are loners and frequently behave aggressively. Sometimes they gather at waters to catch salmon. Since they are omnivores, these bears feed on fish, plants and large mammals like moose, deer and black bears. They are also known to steal food from wolves or humans.

The bright Blue Poison Dart Frog with black spots on its back is beautiful. Although it’s so small, it immediately stands out with this fancy coloring. Contrary to its name, its skin is only poisonous when it eats the ants in its native rainforest in South America. If you feed it other food, you can safely take the pretty little frog in your hand. Give it a try!

Elephants are known as being thick skinned. However, their skin is so sensitive, they can even get sunburnt. That is why elephants often throw several layers of mud on themselves. This pleasant "cooling pack" also combats the scorching heat. While elephants cannot hear any better than other animals with their huge ears, they help them to cope with the African heat. When they fan with their ears, the blood cools down and provides them with refreshment.

Oh look, a Fire Salamander! Anyone who manages to spot this particularly beautiful amphibian in the forest or along a stream can count themselves lucky. Most of the time it prefers to move around at night. During the day it likes to hide in a hole in the ground or a cave. Thanks to its striking black and yellow patterning, most animals keep their distance. They know it's a warning, letting them know it might be poisonous. This specimen here, however, can be stroked by friends without any danger.

Male gorillas often beat their fists on their chests. They do so to show who is the strongest in the group. However, it can also be a kind of greeting. Gorillas don’t just walk on the palms of their hands, but also on their knuckles. For this reason, they’re also known as knuckle-walkers.

The giant mammoth may look a bit scary with its impressive size and long tusks, but don’t worry – it is usually peaceful. This prehistoric giant prefers to use its long trunk to pluck leaves from trees and nibble on twigs. If you don’t get in its way, you can become friends with this Ice Age giant, whose woolly, thick coat is the perfect protection against the cold. Ages 3+.

De reuzenschildpad van Schleich® Wild Life heeft een grote, koepelvormige schelp. In de natuur kan hij 100 tot 120 cm lang worden.
