The kangaroo is a native marsupial that lives in Australia and the Indonesian island of New Guinea. Although kangaroos often congregate in groups, kangaroos are generally quite solitary mammals. They are social animals in the company of other kangaroos. Kangaroos have a deep pouch on their front in which they can carry their young. A baby kangaroo is called a joey.
