Only the small ears and nostrils peek above the water. The hippo dozes comfortably there, cooling off. The African sun can be quite hot. The gray giant therefore prefers to spend its time in the water. Here it moves almost weightlessly – and with that massive body!
It only comes ashore at night to graze on a meadow. It lumbers along with its heavy body on short legs. But don’t underestimate it. The hippo can also move surprisingly fast on land once it gets going. Watch out!
