Leica Camera AG recently gave the name "NOCTICRON" to this lens, which achieves a remarkably fast F1.2 aperture. The popular 42.5mm focal length from mid-telephoto (equivalent to 85mm on a 35mm camera) is great for portraits with a great stereoscopic effect. Together with the high-speed aperture, you can use the beautiful soft focus for impressive, creative images. 9 blades give the aperture a round shape, which produces a smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at a large aperture.
High-precision, high-speed AF
The incorporation of a newly developed stepping motor makes focusing smooth and silent for both still and video shooting. In particular, AF performance is far superior to phase-detection AF when a fast lens with a smaller F-number is used. When the lens is mounted on a LUMIX G camera, the precise high-speed Contrast AF system can be fully utilized.
Aperture ring / Metal finish
The aperture ring on the lens barrel enables immediate, intuitive control over the aperture setting. The sophisticated metal design, including the cap, deserves to bear the prestigious LEICA name. The highly reliable metal mount is durable enough for repeated lens changes.
Nano Surface Coating
With Panasonic's Nano Surface technology, reflections are dramatically minimized throughout the entire visual range (380nm-780nm) by applying an extra-low refractive index coating with nanostructure to the lens surface. The result is a truly clear image with dramatically reduced ghosting and flare.
POWER O.I.S.
Due to the shallow depth of field, which is unique to a large aperture lens, even a slight hand shake will cause blurring. However, the new POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) will effectively compensate not only for small, fast movements but also for larger, slow movements, making it easy to achieve crystal clear images even when shooting in low-light conditions, such as at night or indoors.
