In X-Out: Resurfaced, it’s up to you to stop an invasion of alien forces rising from the ocean’s depths. The iconic underwater shooter from 1990 has been unearthed, rebuilt from the ground up, and transformed into a modern yet faithful remake.

X-Out originally stood out by taking the action below the surface instead of into outer space. Its unique shop system let players assemble their own fleet of ships, weapons, and equipment, making every playthrough feel different. In Resurfaced, this system returns in an improved form, featuring new loadouts, clearer descriptions, and easy-to-read indicators for open weapon slots—allowing both newcomers and veterans to dive right in.

The remake is completely redrawn with high-resolution sprites, stunning lighting and particle effects, and updated versions of every stage, enemy, boss, and projectile. All of this is accompanied by a remastered soundtrack from Chris Hülsbeck, expanded with six entirely new tracks that amplify the game’s atmosphere. As a tribute to the original artwork, Ogan Kandemiroglu—brother of the original artist, Celal—has contributed to the visual recreation.

The challenges are tougher than ever, but you don’t have to face them alone: the game now offers local co-op for two players, letting you take on the horrors of the deep with a friend. And when you think you’ve seen it all, Mirror Mode flips the stages for a completely fresh experience.
